چکیده
Cocos nucifera (CN), commonly known as Coconut tree, is used for its several beneficial health effects as antitumor, anthelmintic, antidotal, antiseptic, aperients, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, depurative, diuretic, hemostat, pediculicide, refrigerant, stomachic, styptic, suppurative and vermifuge. Our objective was to determine the antioxidant activities, DPPH radical scavenging activities and antimicrobial activities of the ethanolic (cold percolation:RNM-01 & hot percolation:RNM02) extracts, dry distilled extract(RNDS) and aqueous extract(hot percolation: RNA) of endocarp of cocos nucifera from Karnataka region in India. Agar disc diffusion method was used for in vitro antibacterial and antifungal screening. The overall results provide promising baseline information for the potential use of the crude anti-oxidant extracts from CN in the treatment of bacterial and fungal infection as well as for the reduction of other human diseases. As it has been already reported that there is an inverse relationship between dietary-intake of antioxidant-rich foods and the incidence of a number of human diseases, therefore these results are interesting. © 2011 IGJPS. This study was aimed at investigating the antioxidant activity of Mangifera indica Linn., Cocos nucifera Linn., and Averrhoa carambola Linn. and their biological effect on human keratinocytes affected by the ultraviolet B (UVB), a major cause of cell damage and skin cancer through induction of DNA damage, production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and apoptosis. The richest antioxidant activi...

Background: Coconut is a tropical fruit well known for its essential oils that have been recognized for their biological activities since ancient times. There have been no previous investigations on the essential oils from coconut shells. Method: The shell extract of Cocos nucifera (L.) was prepared by the Soxhlet method and total phenolic content (TPC) in the extract was determined by Folin-Ci...

متن کاملAnti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of Cocos nucifera var. typica
BACKGROUND Teas from the husk fiber of Cocos nucifera are used in the folk medicine to treat arthritis and other inflammatory processes. Some works show that some varieties have biological activities. However, one of the main variety of the species, C. nucifera var. typica, known in Brazil as "gigante", was not studied yet. Thus, this study evaluates if this variety has the anti-inflammatory an...
